Subject: Calibrating yield monitor on different hybrids

Nebraska
Getting things ready to go for corn harvest, and was thinking about this...Last year in our corn plot, I was harvesting a hybrid that looked good, but according to the monitor and the FieldView, it was the bottom of the plot. It didn’t appear that way going in the combine, and when we weighed it on the scale, it ended up 3rd overall. But this hybrid had bigger kernels, with a test weight of 59. The field we were harvesting and had set the monitor to had a heavier orange colored corn, average kernel size, and a 61-62 lb test weight.

So really talking to the crew this year about making sure when we harvest and switch hybrids, to recalibrate the monitor to try and get as accurate of info as possible. Don’t want to take the monitor for gospel and kick a hybrid off the farm when maybe it performed better.

Just some thoughts...
