2 3/8 works OK, just be sure to not weld your cross brace high. At least a foot from the top, 18” is better. Two cross braces is even better than that if it’s a single H. The higher the cross brace the more it can act as a lever to pull the tie post out of the ground. Lowering it helps it push against the brace post.

Driven is less likely than concrete to pull out in sand. In tight clay concrete is better because of the shrink and swell I get “here”.

All corners need at least as much in the ground as above it.
