If your factory for growing crops is slowly degrading ,because of erosion and reduced organic matter from tillage. How long are our soils going to feed the world ? The areas of my fields where the subsoil is the top soil is where I see yield improvement with no-till and cover crop. If you bought a ton of top soil what would it cost you, think of the money you saving by keeping your soil. I am working with the University of Missouri on some strip trials of things farmers want tested , using full planter with or harvest with collecting data from yield monitor and such. One of the interesting numbers they have come up with is that planting corn into a cover crop you take a yield reduction for first two years and by the third year you have figured out how to manage it and get your yields back to clean no-till.
