In order to have this done automatically some type of module gets involved. Ag Leader's Application Rate Module can be connected to an implement switch or by using a relay from some other device. Many other Ag Leader modules make use of an implement switch in performing their tasks but it sounds as if you would not be using them. I'm not familiar with the brown box output but the Versa would need to have a some type of module. Your Versa may be setup to paint when auto steer is engaged which might be an acceptable alternative. That map might not be perfect but might still be helpful.
There is no way to directly connect an implement switch to the Versa without some type of module. This was possible with the pre-CAN models such as the PF 3000, Advantage etc.
