1. It gets interesting when your data is held hostage as Photobucket did years ago, or when the service goes under and simply pulls the plug, as several have.

2. So, your data is out there, and you feel comfortable some mining service will be able to retrieve it well into the future. Give that some thought. Your data, anyone can find it......

3. Internet speeds. Most of us rural folk are pretty excited to get over 10meg speeds download, and most places limit upload speeds to 1meg. That is painfully, painfully slow. We are talking days and days to move a terabyte.

A couple 4 terabyte drives cost a couple $100, back up one to the other and take one to a different location, and your data is pretty safe. A better option are the drives that have multiple drives, and make backups of themselves. You still want a portable drive and take a backup of the data to a different location from time to time.

Much faster, more secure, cheaper, and just as safe as paying a monthly fee to slowly send your data to someone’s server somewhere.

My view, but there certainly is room for other views depending on your situation.
