Central Alberta | Will online data ever disappear? I'm sure most of the early data was erased or went down with crashed hard drives, but it's a different world nowadays. Memory has become incredibly cheap. I've seen a 1 TB micro SD card selling for $50 on Amazon. I've still got my Master's thesis in Word format from 1993. Not on some old floppy disks, but by carrying my backups forward every time I upgraded. I don't have a redundant backup array, but I'm sure every cloud service does, so I'm sure there almost no chance your data will ever go away. I'm sure future projects like the Wayback Machine will be able to deep-mine old data and provide a massive archive of digital history. | |
