We run a minimum rate as well. Our soil testing company wanted us to variable rate with good areas getting little to no fertilizer. I told them I wanted a minimum rate, otherwise at the end of 4 years the z"good" areas would be low on fertility and that I wasn't going to "mine" what I had spent years building up. I do variable rate lime with no minimum rate.
