southern MN | Funny! Never met that contractor, but I’ve seen some pictures of his work....
Would lay down a layer of cobs and a little husk in the pens, then layer some oat straw as thry got dirty. Would never have a wet pen, those cobs provided a real stable and absorbent base.
Not many ear corn and sheller folk left. Made some great cheap corn, but the harvest speed just didn’t keep up. Still do a wagon or two a year.
