NW Iowa-Lyon
I normally do not do falling lambing. I decided to just give it a try and see what happens. I have breed the booroola gene into over half of my ewes. I wanted to see what this gene will do for me. So last year I lambed end of December through January. The Booroola ewes I did not flush just ran teaser and ended up with over a 275% live rate out of these ewes. Came April I decided to get a second lambing since the market is down and I have people ask how the booroola gene ewes will do in the fall. Since I do on occasion sell some rams and sell ewe lambs. I also did not flush these ewes in April. They were just on alfalfa hay and had the teasers turned in for 17 days before the intact rams came. With in case of these two ewes one had triplets January 6 and the other had quads on December 28th. I am hoping the rest of my booroola ewes doesn’t this good.
