Subject: Establishing alfalfa grass mix

We have about 20 acres of lower, alkaline soil. For the past 10 or so years we work it, fertilize, seed wheat canola or oats, spray, and the kochia takes over so we work it up about mid June and summer fallow it. Next year exact same thing happens. So I want to seed it down to hay and hopefully get something out of it. What’s the best way to get this established? Located in south central Manitoba, typical dirt killing frost would be end of sept, hard freeze up late oct.
