SW Wisconsin | I'm running in the 250 range right now, so take this with a grain of salt. I've been higher in the past. DHIA is invaluable: individual cell counts are an absolute necessity. Staph is nasty because it doesn't always show up, but when you've got monthly numbers you can see which cows spike often. Ship those cows, or at least milk them last. Milking young, healthy cows first and older cows with a history of mastitis last helps a lot.
My prep sequence is:
Strip
Spray (a squirt of utensil soap, a splash of bleach, fill the spray bottle with warm water) and rub the teats to loosen dirt
X 4
Wipe with individual towels, dirty cows may get multiple towels and resprayed.
Attach milker
X4
Prep next 4
Post dip with iodine post dip after milking.
