Eastern Ohio | Have a major time consuming problem with litter in broiler barns. The Co. that my buddy raises broilers for has went to a windrowing litter system, roll windrows, then roll over in 5 days, then level back out in barn to reuse. Windrowing and rolling over are no problem but leveling out the reused litter is taking approx. 3-4 hrs per barn. Sawdust shavings just doesn't flow like dirt or gravel. Thought about using a spike tooth harrow but we are limited to a 10' door width. Any suggestions. Under feed lines also needs to be perfectly level. BTW this new system of litter recycling has added approx. 6 hrs per barn per flock and the availability of chicken litter for fertilizer will only be available once a year now. | |
