SC Wisconsin
Lots of surface applied manure here following corn silage. If you don't have ruts, no till + covers move you in the direction you want to go with improving soil organic matter. Tillage has it's place, but it won't help you reach your goal of building OM. Duane Beck might give you some solid comparisons for your location. If you have traffic related compaction, consider strip till to get you through the transition.
