I went and did some scouting this last week. I am in NE Iowa and we had great rains all year (at least an inch a week and 11" in June) until the middle of July the rain stopped. We were on track to have our best yields ever until the rain stopped.
I wanted to get a rough idea of how much to contract so I decided to do some scouting and pull some ears. The first variety I grabbed was Pioneer P0306Q, I guess it doesn't handle drought very well at all it had 2-3" of tip back. It looks like overall I will be close or just shy of my APH. If you want to see all the results watch the video below.

I'v posted before that understanding genetic families would be important in a hot, dry year. Root types are directly related to the males and females used. What worked the past 4 years with consistent rain may not work in dryer conditions. I think you just listed a hybrid that doesn't work. The key is knowing which ones will tolerate hot, dry conditions the best. Hybrids will vary 20 to 30 bushels.
