WC Mn/Dakotas | Application costs vary widely from area to area. It comes down to generating dollars per hour. Helicopter costs more per hour to operate, but can fly slower and turn quicker than a plane. So those real small odd shaped, obstacle type fields are impossible to do with fast planes or if you do they spend all their time turning (which does not pay). You need the right tool for your situation. I've seen some fields sprayed with a plane that even a Helicopter would still do a poor job.
Then everyone figures their breakeven costs differently *or they don't figure at all). So you might get a guy that is just generating more gross dollars for the year. Or some guys will play the price reduction game to get the job, but then cut back on costs somewhere else to make up for it. There are all kinds of scenarios. Quality application is worthwhile. Then there is supply/demand factors too. | |
