| I am in East-Central Indiana and have been contacted about growing canola for a local livestock producer. It will be all organic canola, I am handling the transition but have questions about canola itslelf.
As I understand it is planted in the fall and harvested in the summer like wheat.
I get about 3,800 - 4,200 growing degree days per year.
Can I just straight cut the canola in a more humid, 40+” of rainfall per year environment?
I hear some producers spray their canola before harvest (straight cut) - does every operator have to spray before harvest and I am assuming that is not possible with organic.
If anyone has insight on this that would be appreciated as I know nothing about canola production. Thanks! | |
