Okanogan Wa. | Take this with a grain of salt. I’m in a 15” area, however I think unlike you, the vast majority of my moisture comes in the winter. Growing season rain is the exception. I am no tilling and trying to find things other than wheat. Wheat after oats has noticeable vigor and lack of disease. I recently posted about problems with nematodes in the second oat crop in an oat, spring wheat, oat field with no fallow year. I found a local registered cattle operation that likes to feed the oats. The amount of straw added is a benefit to our no till. In fact we baled straw for our own use this year on the part of the field not hit by nematodes. I like some parts of it but I can’t call it a success yet. | |
