Subject: Shares on a Pivot? How does something like that work? Can it work?

NC South Dakota
Family owns a half section, sandy soil.
I may have the option to purchase an adjoining quarter.
Have neighbors that would possibly want to deal or trade land on the 4th quarter of the section.
That would make a nice square section to irrigate.

There are a few obstacles in the section but as is, but would have 270+ acres inside the circle with minimal dirt or tree work.
Quite a bit more with a chainsaw.....
Im not sure how much and end gun would cover but that would add some too.
If the neighbors didn't want to deal, or wanted to farm their quarter..... Has a cost share on maintenance and initial startup ever worked between 2 or 3 farmers on a pivot?
Sounds like alot of potential trouble right?.......
Thanks for the input.

Edit- I do not currently irrigate, but most years I am envious of those that have the ability out here.
