southern MN | In general fiber in the concrete controls surface popping mostly. It can be a little fuzzy/ irritating to lay on. It’s good but doesn’t take the place of rebar or mesh, but in addition if the fuzzy part isn’t a bother it can help a lot.
Mesh helps stuff hold together but it likes to sag to the bottom and ends up not in the concrete, useless; and when concrete cracks it has very thin metal where salts and acids quickly eat through it making it worthless. Especially around manure.
Rebar works the best.
Fiberglass rebar is fairly new, but if it works well it might be ideal for the corrosive environment of manure.
My simple understanding of the art of concrete work.
