Subject: RE: Wells for a feedlot

Northeast Nebraska
I'm sure it all depends on size of operation and owner preference. When I was younger we had 300 head on the same well as the house and rest of the farm. When more yards were added when I was in high school a new dedicated livestock well was added as well. The two wells are connected, but the house well only serves the house and farm yard normally. If the livestock well goes down we can turn a valve and still get water to the yards until the livestock well can be fixed. This happened last year and was very glad to have it that way. The pressure tank in the livestock well pit had failed so it was constantly cycling the pump and burned it up. By the time they pulled the well to fix it all and put a new pressure tank in it had been 6 hours from when we caught the problem. Glad the system had a backup.
