Subject: RE: Mitral heart valve regurgitation trouble....

Earlville, NY
Had my aortic valve replaced three years ago; blood infection had caused a bacterial growth in valve and it was back flowing 85%. Had to have open heart surgery for it because the growth wouldn't allow any other method. Had a synthetic valve put in since I was only 45, I have to take warfarin now which is a slight pita, have to get a quick blood test every 4-6 weeks to check dosage levels. Total recovery took at least a year, but after the first 4-6 weeks I was able to start doing more normal things. First week after surgery was pretty rough but then things improved pretty quickly. Definitely don't wait; the heart is trying to work harder to keep blood moving and it won't take long for heart muscle to begin thickening from the extra work, and the damage is irreversible. Find a Dr that's done at least a few hundred procedures and get it taken care of.
