There are ways around that.
This is very long winded and dull, but he explains how to downgrade a big card into a 32 meg Fat card.
Minute 8 is the first mention of it.

Fat can’t really deal with more than 32 meg of data, so a card bigger than that can’t really normally be formatted into Fat. Unless you do some tricks.
