Yes, those who've tried them say so.
Two important points- first slice off an 1/8 of an inch off the blossom end. There are enzymes there that will make them mushy.
Second, the tannin in the grape leaves goes into the pickles to make them crunchy. I've read you can use horseradish leaves or some oak leaves instead but haven't tried it.
