NeMO | Let's just imagine for fun the usda shut its doors tomorrow. No more reports, rma, cfap, whatever. How long do you think it would take for the free market to sort it out? Do you think prices would soar from that lack of a "credible" source of information? Do you think we would eventually over produce ourselves back into poverty like usda has put us in? What do we really want a free market for? More volatility so we can get hit with a buzzsaw when the people that have information trade it well before we know it? If corn rallied 50 cents in July with no usda reports would you sell the hell out of it, or sit on your hands cause you think its gonna rally a dollar? Is it really gonna benefit us, the farmer?
No one ever takes into account that they can see the exact same data at the same time as the people that trade it. What if a private company comes out with technology to accurately forecast yield, carryout, demand, whatever. Do you think that will be beneficial for you as a farmer? Because I doubt they would give it away to free to anyone. | |
