Subject: RE: Agleader Insight to Variable rate spreader truck

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Depending of what is being done with the planter, he may have the Aux input module, switch box, GPS and some cables. If so, some or all of those items might be able to be moved to the truck. If on the other hand, the Insight is only doing population monitoring then those items would not be present with the planter setup. If the planter does have a switch box and Aux input module they could both be moved to the truck. Another option would be to just move the Aux input module and install a SPDT toggle switch in the truck. This would be easier to work with and wouldn't have the unnecessary section switches.

He would need a module for the spreader truck such as the spreader/spinner module. This module could handle more than one product but there is no provision for section control. The assumption is always full width or nothing. A shaft sensor is used to inform the system how fast the bed is turning. The present shaft sensor could possibly be used. The module can work with either servo or PWM valves for the bed control.

As far as the spinner speed, there are 3 options. 1) do nothing, 2) monitor the speed and adjust the spinner speed valve manually 3) install a PWM valve for the spinner and have the system monitor and control the spinner speed. There is also an option to tie into a bin level sensor so the system will warn the operator when the bin is low. This does not need to be used.

As far as the VR part, the Rx map is created and placed on the memory card. The Insight uses the map and GPS information to decide what the rate should be in a given area. It changes its target rate accordingly.

Here's a used spinner module on eBay: Note this is needed as well as the items mentioned above which may or may not be present with the planter setup.

As mentioned in the previous post another approach is possible. Before exploring this much, it is necessary to determine if the present controller in the truck can work with third party devices via a serial cable. If not, then this approach is not available.

With this arrangement the current controller still controls the bed and other aspects as before but communication takes place back and forth with the Ag Leader system through their Application Rate Module. The VR map is created on a PC and saved to the memory card which is inserted into the Insight. The Insight sends the target rate through a serial cable to the controller. The controller will then attempt to apply that rate until it receives a new rate. The controller will send information back to the Ag Leader as to what it is doing so the Insight can make maps, summaries etc.

This actually works very well but does not have the ability to do section control which the spinner module can't do either. To use this type of system would require the Insight, the GPS, an Application Rate module and a few other cables. It would not require the switch box, Aux Input Module or Spinner Module mentioned above. This should be considerably cheaper.

The disadvantage is cab clutter associated with another screen etc and depending on the present controller to work properly.

Here's link to one: Note you would need a cable to plug into the open port to go to your present controller.
