East central Iowa | I had never been in a canoe. Only on small ski boat 35 years ago.
Well a while back I decided I was going to start canoeing. Look for canoes, talked to people, watched hours of you-tube.
Got canoe, life jackets and other stuff. Registered and ready to go.
Went out yesterday. Loved it. Much more stable than I thought would be. Paddling and moving around much easier than I thought. Mention "canoe" to most people and they say, Oh they just flip over.
Spent 2.5 hrs on old flooded quarry site park/rec. area, about 25 acres lake. Had a 15 mph wind so stayed 100 yards off the shore. Got a good start to get feel of canoe and how to control movement.
I think I just found a new hobby to take up at 55 yrs old. I can see spending an afternoon or early morning fishing in my canoe. Bonus is I get some quality exercise while getting away from it all. Wish I had tried it 30 years ago.
