NE Iowa | I would go rye. Greens up the quickest so gets tall enough to cut the earliest. Getting it cut and baled even a week sooner can make a big difference in bean yields. End of May was wet so my rye was fully headed and 4' tall when I cut it about May 29th. I chopped and bagged it. I got about 7' of 9' bag per acre. I drilled no-till beans directly behind the chopper and they look great. I would plant as soon as you can after chopping corn. I would drill at 2 bu/acre. Drilling gets you more consistent stand than broadcast. 50# of N at greenup is about what I did. | |
