Very well said Clay, there were a lot of things going on and besides the Japanese, the Russians were also a problem. Stalin was big victor when the War was coming to the end in Germany. The last conference with Roosevelt, Stalin really was able to take advantage of a very sick Roosevelt. Churchill was not very happy as he got left out of most of the decisions and Roosevelt who had been able to negotiate with Stalin previously just wasn’t up to the task. Personally I applaud Truman who had very little experience as He and Roosevelt were never very close, to make right decision. If Russia had been involved heavily fighting Japanese, world would be a different place.
I can’t imagine our troops going on a boat to fight on the Japanese home island , the relief they must have felt when they heard that Japan surrendered especially after the terrible hardship they had endured on other islands. Read alot of history on the Island wars fighting the Japanese, some of it almost unreadable on atrocities that were committed By them. War is horrible but the Japanese at the time would rank up there with some of worst.
