They say the cruise ship on the other side of the harbor (seen in lower right corner) later rolled over and sank too.
My wife has a very good friend who is originally from Lebanon. Luckily non of her family was near the blast. That port is the primary entry for goods into the country and they import a large portion of their needs.
She was telling my wife that the country was already in very bad shape as the government was stealing everything. Her parents and one sister still live there. Luckily her parents live on a small farm outside of Beirut. If you send $s or goods to someone there it seldom arrived or a large % was confiscated. Now who knows.
