Subject: RE: Irrigating Corn - How much water?

Northwest Illinois
I live in a pretty sandy area along Mississippi. Most ground that doesn’t have a pivot historically hasn’t needed one because of better soils. Ground with pivots will average .8 per week it seems. This year I’ve been over 1” per week and have applied close to 6” on my lightest fields. I expect another 3 weeks or 3”. Average is around 6” total for past summers. Basically just fill in watering here for dry periods. Corn likes the drier years here on sand. Roots go down faster than soil applied nutrients.
