Basically companys want to know who they are dealing with and make sure that they are financially stable.
If a business is financially squeezed, any one that deals with them, buying or selling, will likely come out short. You can't get blood from a stone.
In this case, the manufacturer would have thousands of unrecoverable dollars invested in your order by the time it was ready to be shipped. And as you found with your customers, hoping for payment dosen't work. So, if you fill out the credit application, they can review it, maybe call your references if they have any questions, then they can be reasonably sure that you are a good customer to invest in.
It's not a scam or an insult, it's just doing their due diligence. | |
