Subject: RE: We were the enablers

Monsanto always takes the bad rap.

We farmers were the enablers..... save the planet? That’s our tag line.

We leveraged the Roundup technology to cut down on pesticide use. Cut down tillage passes. Enable no-till. Eliminate row cultivation. Save the soil. Clean up the dirty water after an eroding rain. Harvest more ears because the corn borer larvae died. Eliminate the IPM scouting when it’s hot under a corn canopy and pollen is flying everywhere... Significantly cut down on all those nasty dry insecticides we had to use to kill root worms in corn on corn and extended diapause and Northern variants.... and actually work regardless if the soil actually received enough rain to activate those granulars.... cue Early IL drought of what 2003 or 2004?

Most (but not everyone) paid for the conveniences and promoted the environmental benefits along with the traits and tech. Save the blame for the 95 percenters that found and believed in the benefits of convenience, simplicity, and saving the world a ton of soil and a ton of pesticide use at a time.

Edit: maybe, just maybe Bayer might have enough clout to actually make carbon credits sexy and actually worth something....
