Subject: RE: First Hogs not growing

Well, I will give it a try;If they were 30 to 40 pounds they were big enough to be on their own. We would call them feeder pigs. Sows are the mothers. At that size they probably should be on a 16 % protein diet including every thing they eat. As they get bigger you can slowly work protein down, but end up at 13% protein when they are maybe 250 pounds. Most pigs around here would be fed a corn -soybean meal- vitamin pack mix. Corn should be ground fairly fine. Hogs do not do well on a lot of roughage. If you see worms when you worm that means you have a bad problem and will mean you had large round worms but there are many worms you can't see. A lot of pigs are weaned at 10 pounds ,but you need to feed the right feed to do it Yes, I think you started them out on to low of a protein diet and probably have been to low since as you have diluted it. I think the stress of mange is worse than treatment. I do not think the pen was to big , if anything it might help develop more muscle.
