| To use a spiral you most likely will need to run the material through a fanning mill first. It’s pretty easy to plug a spiral even with cleaned grain. Even then you’ll never get all the vetch to roll off. There’s gonna be a certain amount that just isn’t round enough to pick up enough speed to come off.
If you’re dead set on getting all the vetch out, a length grader is probably best bet. Unless it’s some really big vetch, you should be able to lift all the vetch and about 20-30% of the rye and the rejected rye would be clean. Then you’re stuck with some rye that has a ton of vetch in it though.
A really well set up spiral would get out 90-95% of the vetch. | |
