| Boy that brings back old memories! My wife and I drove over the road (for Hawkeye Refrigerated in Ceder Rapids IA) before we started farming. In 86 we were involved in that same Hay Lift. A local farmer donated 6 loads and our company hauled them in a caravan to Atlanta. Local truck stop donated all of the fuel.
And you are right, it was organized by the extension office.
In Atlanta, we split up two trucks each and went out to the rural community to deliver the hay (they picked it up at a central location). The ironic thing is, just as we got done unloading the hay it started raining, and the women hid out under the trailer.
Also, 1988 was the big drought in the midwest (that's the year we started farming and had 28 bushel corn)
