Canada's supply management system for dairy & feather has been a success story....sure there is quota value issues for new entrants and a lot of jealousy from those without quota as it being 'unfair competition ' for land,ect......pretty much compares to guy with civil servant or union job compared to gut working at Walmart.........I used to think supply management was bad until a friend told me "why do we want to bring them down to our level'......ad hoc& gov't subsidized programs in the free market system has lot' of faults also...disclaimer-we have 0 quota

A success story for the small number of farmers who benefit from it. But it's at the expense of others; other farmers who can't afford the privilege of owning quota, farmers across the line who can't compete fairly, and the consumer who must bear the cost. A block of cheese that once cost $10 is now almost $30 under the new system.

It's also unsustainable. The price of quota has skyrocketed to levels that will eventually bankrupt even the biggest and wealthiest dairy producers. It's no exaggeration to say that supply management is an anti-competitive manipulation of supply and demand.
