Subject: RE: anybody eat corn smut?

nw NC
There are a couple of families of Hispanics that come to my farm each year when field corn is in roasting ear stage. They want the corn at that stage to cut it off the cob and cook it to make a pasty dough for tamales. They certainly got exited when they find some ears with smut on them. They say is delicacy in home country. I asked how they cook it. Woman said, " put in frying pan with some oil, stir in some onions, garlic and hot pepper." They found some redroot pigweed in the field and asked if they could get it to eat too, said it was good to eat. I asked how they cook it. Woman said, " put in frying pan with some oil, stir in some onions, garlic and hot pepper." Another time they wanted a kitten for their daughter. I asked, " How you cook it , put in frying pan with some oil, stir in some onions, garlic and hot pepper?" Hahaha!!!!
