Subject: RE: alfalfa conditioning

Northeast Missouri
I have a John Deere 946 with impellers and use it on alfalfa. It is very gentle on alfalfa if set correctly. I've found the cutterbar actually causes most of any leaf loss. Sharp knives are a must. Don't fear an impeller machine. If you leave the machine set for grass you can damage alfalfa. However, it's simple to adjust and takes longer to walk back to the machine than it does to change it.
