Central, IA | There are camping cabins in Custer state park. We spent 5 nights over the 4th of July. 4 beds and a fire pit. Campground bathrooms. A couple campgrounds have bigger cabins with kitchens. There’s also a couple lodges that have hotel style rooms.
If you want a little more commercial, there’s lots of cabins to rent in the general area of Rushmore.
It might be a little late to book for this summer, unless you are looking at late august/September.
Badlands are neat to drive through, but not much for lodging.
Your best route is probably I29 north to Sioux Falls and then it is 80mph across 90 to Rapid City. If two lane roads are your preference, there’s some south of 90. | |
