Celebrity is old and has no disease resistance. Mountain Merit is a good slicer, but is sort of bland. Damsel is a good one to try. Has heirloom like taste, but more uniform, better producer and has a minor disease package.
Many of the commercial hybrids are about uniform, good looking fruit that packs out and holds well. Taste is a secondary concern. That is changing, but the ones who have blended heirloom taste with hybrid benefits want the cash for their work. |
