We used to use a grease gun to remove stuck pistons from brake calipers when we used to rebuild those. It made the job almost effortless. I’m curious, how many tubes of grease does it take for an engine?
It does have potential to get some pistons unstuck. I’ve seen it attempted on a stuck loader engine but the head gasket ended up giving way before the pressure could build up enough to move the pistons. The grease just oozed out between the head and block. It’s definitely worth a try.
There was a John Deere 70 I owned that had stuck aluminum pistons. Had high hopes of not having to rebuild the top end. But reality came knocking later on. No amount of grease would’ve saved the corroded pistons. And that tractor had been barn kept all its life. |
