Most states don’t require a CDL for a gooseneck. In fact have never seen a law stating such an I have operated in about 20 states. It is all based on weight. Coupling type is irrelevant. I have had a DOT number and hauled commercially with pickups and semis for 12 years. The majority of it is done by non CDL drivers with 3/4 tons and goosenecks.
