| Ive had a few 826s. They are a great chore/hay tractor. Very easy on fuel. IH offered them in Standard and Farmall and high clear chasis, Gas, Diesel, LPG and gear, TA, TA delete and hydro versions. So theres several versions of IH 826s and even Gold demo models in 1970. The most common gold demo is an F-826 gear drive. Recently an I-826 hydro gold demo in rough shape brought $36k but its only one known so far. The D-358 was a German built engine. Every thing is metric on them. The Bosch inj pump is getting very hard and costly to rebuild. Even emgine parts are getting hard to find here but hearing still common in Europe. The D-310 and D-358 are wet sleeve engines and need coolant additive and/collant filters installed to prevent cavitation erosion. IH used the D-358 in alot of ag and construction equipment. The D-358 is a strong engine but just doesnt have the torque an 856 does. They also dont leak oil like D-407s are known for. They were cheaper priced to compete with 4020s. IH was trying a few price cutting options back then with the 756 Custom and 856 Custom. In 1970 the 826 diesel replaced the 756 diesel but 756 was still offered in gas and LPG in '70-'71.
