Subject: Differential carrier bearing preload

NW Florida/Alabama
I am replacing the ring and pinion gear and the differential carrier bearings on a Massey Ferguson 180. I am wondering what the best way is to check the bearing preload and how to adjust it. I think it uses different sizes of shims for that? Is there a torque spec for the bearings or is it measured by end play? Also do I need a special tool to check it? Thanx
