Since it sounds like you’ve got plenty of space in the breaker panel for the 2 pole breaker, I’d personally install it now, and not bother replacing it until I needed the 1 extra slot in the panel for something else.
They make handle ties for breakers, that in effect turn 2 - single pole breakers into 1 - 240V breaker.
