They are not aggressive, and do not protect their nests at all but can sting if you grab one or something like that.



You must have different wasps there. The mud daubers here will defend their nest while building it, and will sting if you pi$$ them off.
Not as nasty as the paper wasps that build under the eaves, though. Those are just plain ornery. I see absolutely no use for them, other than cardio exercise.
