Faunsdale, AL | Mud daubers capture spiders and entomb them in the cells of their mud nests so the larvae that hatch from the egg laid in the cell can feed on them and complete development.
They are not aggressive, and do not protect their nests at all but can sting if you grab one or something like that.
There’s at least a couple major types here, the ones that build mud nests like the ones you show and then a type that uses a white plaster like material to plug any hole they can find that’s about 5/16- 3/8” diameter. They use holes in engine parts, empty cartridge cases, hoses and fittings etc and are a major pain in the rear around the shop. | |
