Southern Nevada desert | I have lived near Las Vegas since 1995, lots of days over 110 in the summer, I dont run new stuff. My wife's '96 Avalon has 327,000 miles and has never made us walk, same with my 310,000 mile Dodge. My brother has a E250 van at 520,000 miles that had a head gasket fail in the heat around 435,000, he has had a bit of trouble with AC clutches when it gets very hot but nothing else.
Most modern cars are built to take it, not uncommon to see disguised cars with zebra stripes and Michigan plates doing heat testing during the summer months in these parts.
I think blown cooling system hoses are the most common failure I see during extreme heat, followed by blown AC hoses and then maybe tires on 3/4 ton trucks and heavier. I see very few tire problems that I think are heat related on the lower pressure passenger type tires, running low pressure on a tire in the heat is quick death.
I once went to Death Valley during a heat wave, it was over 120*, I swear I could feel my trucks pain...... | |
