Subject: RE: Driving a Vehicle in Extreme Heat

Pittsburg, Kansas

Only if your radiator is mucked up. If it has 200,000 and has never had the antifreeze changed or system flushed it could be a problem if the core is only functioning at reduced capacity that you might never notice in a more moderate climate.

Before you go might take a look at the antifreeze. If it is rusty or you can see down in the core and it looks less than pristine a flush might be in order. Wash all the years of accumulated bugs and dust and debris out of the core on the outside. Get between cores of air conditioner clean.

Your fan is going to be running all the time so check fan and alternator belt/s and replace if they are old or worn. Check hoses. They love to blow mostly when you are as far away from home as possible. Keep a roll of duct tape and some water in the vehicle if you think they are suspect and do not change them. By loosening the radiator cap so there is no pressure on the system and duct taping a hose up it is possible to get to a station. If you have water with you. Been there done that.

Those would be my concerns.

John
