scmn
Correct. Hydros are made by hydraulics companies, not equipment OEMs. The equipment OEMs may run into issues that result in new pump/motors being developed, but they are developed by the hydraulics companies. There are several companies that make hydraulic pumps and motors and some hold up much better than others. A few popular companies that come to mind include: Danfoss, Eaton, Parker, Linde.

Conventional pumps have inlet and pressure ports and are typically used with an open circuit system which results in all the oil returning to the reservoir before being sent back to the pump resulting in the loop flush flow equal to 100% of the pump flow.
Hydro pumps have A and B ports where either port can be pressure or inlet (swash-plate can go over center) and are used with closed circuit systems where return oil is routed thru the pump and a hot oil shuttle removes a portion of the oil from the hydro circuit and the charge pump brings in makeup oil to keep the hydro circuit full. Typically the flushing flow is less than 25% of the hydro flow. Often if the hydro is getting hot, the flush flow needs to be increased to cool the hydro.
